Friday programme links all our learning together!

On Fridays we have a rotation where we learn Science, Dance and Drama and Music.  During this time we learn skills to create and show our understanding. The telling of a story using Mau Rakau and Korari moves is a process that was started on camp where we learnt some moves.

While on camp we also created some Atua scupltures to represent our classes.

Tawhiritmatea
Rongomatane

Tanemahuta

This learning, designing and creating has really increased our understanding of what the atua means and how important they are for all areas of our environment.

We have continued with this at school and today started creating sequences in unison showing the sea birds and the land birds.  Can you see these moves in here?

Aurora Drama Programme Final Play

The Aurora Education Trust is an organisation that provides learning experiences to students who have talents in certain areas.  This year one of the projects was a Drama project that involved 7 days of researching, writing and performing a script about the first encounters in Turanganui. 22 students from 12 schools participated and did a great job working with each other and learning a lot about our history.

Community leaders were involved and came in to talk, teach and work with the students around this topic.
  • Chris Green worked with us for 2 session on Drama techniques.
  • Todd Sheridan worked with us on the first landing at Turanganui and the tragedy of those that were killed.
  • Kata Ngata worked with us on the story of Tupaia.
  • Albie Gibson from Turanganui Ararau provided cultural advice on the script.

Here is the programme:

End of year Antics

What a fantastic end to 2018!

Thank you to FOM's for the tasty Barbecue and all the classes for their entertaining performance!

Here is Tawhirimatea's performance which was 'pantomime-esq' and a lot of fun practicing!  Personally I loved the Year 6 boys as the Sugar Plum Fairies!  LOL!

The final assembly was also a special experience for our Year 6's.  Tomorrow starts today!  Here is a link to some of the items they performed.

Have a very Happy Christmas Everyone!

Roswell and Lilian - A Play

Last Friday our 19 Year 6's performed a play to the school!

We had been practicing and learning about it during Friday Programme this term.  This was a play set in Medieval times about Kings and Queens!  Written in melodrama style we had a lot of fun over acting and doing big actions.  This made it really funny and the audience loved it!

We are looking forward to more performances at Makaraka has Talent and the Final Assembly!
