How will you survive "Tawhirimatea Desert Island"...

On February 3 we found ourselves stranded on the Tawhirimatea Desert Island!  We can only bring one object each that means something to us to help us survive the rough terrain,  extreme weather and tough times!  It takes grit and determination to survive this desert island!  How will we do it...

Here are some photos from our survival stories...

The titles from our stories are:

  • E waka eke noa - We're all in this waka together!
  • We've got the power!
  • Could it get any worse?
  • We will survive!
  • Fire for life - where there's smoke there's fire!
  • Lost our way!
  • There's more than one way to scale a fish...
  • Weirdest time of our lives!

I wonder if 2021 will truely reflect these titles and the navigation of this Tawhrimatea Desert!
How will you survive? Which Title best describes you?

I think this will help me to get better at thinking on the spot and working with other people that i don't know very well. Maybe we could do some more acting in the future? Thank you

  3. Kia Ora koka Michelle,

I really enjoyed drawing the pictures in the artwork we made, my favourite drawing was the bit when we drew the hutt on the picture.
Tawhirimatea desert island represents that it can get hard sometimes through the year but at times we can always figure out a way to get through it.
The object I took to the island was a pair of my favourite running shoes because I really like to go on runs and they are always a lot of fun.

By Max Hindmarsh P.S. This activity was a lot of fun!

  7. Kia Ora Koka,
This was a great activity because we worked as a group and we got to try dying instead of painting and colouring in. I loved how this made me think about what the tawhirimatea desert would look like and what would be on it. Next time i would like to video our survival stories so that we could see more of what our actions looked like!

  14. Kia Ora Koka Michelle,
I really enjoyed perfoming our play and watching other peoples ones. I think that it was meant to be a metaphor for the Tawririmatea class. Next time I would like it videoed so that I can look back and watch it again. My item that I bought was the first book that I ever got. My dad got for me in Australia.

  16. Kia Ora Koka Michelle,
I really enjoyed being able to create a skit in a group and perform it to the class. This will help me with the year ahead by showing me how hard it will be to survive being year six in Tawhirimatea. My groups title was weirdest time of our lives it means that were had never experienced it before and we learnt something new on Tawhirimatea. My object was my guitar because it calms me down and music is my passion it was useful because we used the strings for a fishing line.

This was a fantastic activity because it made me think lots and it was really fun to draw our own imaginary island called tawhirimatea.
This activity will get me through the year ahead of me because I am a senior and the leader of the school and it is hard to be the leader of the school.
Next time I would like to video it as well as have a photo because if we have a video I can understand it better
