Apples Galore!

In my last video I told you that I was going to pick all the apples off my tree!  I usually do this around Easter time every year.  It is a bit of a tradition now!  Let me show you the process...

1. Pick the apples!  (This can take a while)

2. Get the tools ready - you need a good apple peeler, corer and slicer and a large pan!

3. Peel, core and slice the apples.  This machine makes it sooo easy!  A whole bin can be done in a day with this beauty!

4, Stew the apples till they are al dente (still a little firm).  Get them ready to freeze.

I use containers if I have them but when I run out I use plastic bags. I now have 20 containers full!

These are great in pies, crumbles, on cereal in the mornings, making apple sauce or in chutneys!  The world's your oyster!

What have you all been up to in your lockdown?  Perhaps you could share something you have made or done with some photos for us on your blog!

How to check my reading marks in readworks...

Here is an example of how to see your answers and Mrs Hall's feedback.  This will tell you what to work on next when you do your next assignment!  Of course you will also be able to fix up your answers and make them better too!

Next video I will show you how to create your own library and choose your own stories!  Happy holidays and keep reading!

How to join Tawhirimatea class in readworks...

Here is a screencast of how to join our class Readworks group.  I have set readings for you and will mark them when you are finished.  Please remember to find the answers in the story!

It would be great if more of you joined up as there are only 9 at the moment!

Friday programme links all our learning together!

On Fridays we have a rotation where we learn Science, Dance and Drama and Music.  During this time we learn skills to create and show our understanding. The telling of a story using Mau Rakau and Korari moves is a process that was started on camp where we learnt some moves.

While on camp we also created some Atua scupltures to represent our classes.

Tawhiritmatea
Rongomatane

Tanemahuta

This learning, designing and creating has really increased our understanding of what the atua means and how important they are for all areas of our environment.

We have continued with this at school and today started creating sequences in unison showing the sea birds and the land birds.  Can you see these moves in here?

Learning Map 1 Curriculum Evening

Last Tuesday we were lucky to have Mary Wootton visit and lead our curriculum evening.

Great to see our student teachers involved too!

We even got a sausage for dinner!

Mary introduced our community to what we are doing in school with learning maps.  It was great to see so many people sharing the learning process with their children!

Here is the slide of information that was given:

Once the class has finished their maps, videoed and completed the form, Mrs Hall can see if there are any common trends with what all students are saying...

Here is Tawhirimatea's trends:

From now we do some learning and reflecting to see if we can make the changes that will help our learning.  Today we reflected on our change after 4 weeks and tweaked it for the remainder of the term!

Outcome: We are getting better at our learning behaviours!

St John's Emergency Response Visit

Last week we had a visit from Tira the St John's educator.  She taught us how best to respond to an emergency.

The acronym for helping in an accident is Drs ABCD

D dangers - check for dangers and eliminate them
R response - check for a response from the patient
S send for help - get some one to go for help
A airways - check for objects and a clear airway
B breathing - look, listen, feel
C commence CPR if able
D defibrillator if available.

We practiced bandaging a wound:

Calling 111:

Putting someone in the recovery position:

 and CPR.

These are all important skills to keep on top of and helping in an emergency!
Remember to keep calm 😎
