How to put videos into you tube for easy embedding...

Here is a tutorial on how to put videos in you youtube channel.

The advantages of this are that they embed easily into blogger and slides and many people can see youtube on their devices easier.  It is also a much faster process than uploading to blogger.

Steps:

  1. Download your movie from your drive or camera.
  2. Open You Tube and make sure you are logged in.
  3. Click on the video camera and select upload video.
  4. Click next and select your settings:
    1. Yes it is made for kids.
    2. Give it a title
    3. Select next
    4. Make it unlisted - this is the same as "anyone with the link".
  5. Click next and you are done.
  6. Copy the link to insert into blogger and slides via you tube.

Jono aka C3PO

Here is Jono's Robot!  Its life sized and he can wear it!  Jono loves building and creating things using his imagination.  He sees different things in every object!

This Robot is made of boxes, wrapping paper, ribbon and rolls. We had fun putting it together!

I wonder where he is now going to store it.... 😩

Lockdown Anzac 2020

This morning was an unusual ANZAC dawn.  We couldn't have any public services so everyone in New Zealand was asked to stand at their gates for a dawn remembrance.  My son, who is 15 and a student at Campion College, played the Last Post for our neighbourhood.  Here it is here with the sunrise in the background:

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

Kite Kraze

This week we have been making and TRYING to fly kites.  There hasn't been much wind so a lot of our kites are waiting for wind until they can fly!

This morning on our Google Meet we shared our kites and how we made them and I took some screen shots of them to show you.  If you want to see more from everyone's kites, head over to individual blogs and find the post on kites.  There are some fabulous designs there!

We learnt that there are 4 forces acting on kites.  Lift, Thrust, Drag and Weight/Gravity.  The balance of the kite is also important - where you tie your string.

We all had fun this week getting outside and designing kites!

Here is our sharing session!

Introducing Pringles: The Flying Robot Chef

This weeks art challenge is to create a robot using recycled materials. This task was inspired by Martin Horspool, a Robot sculpturist who lives in Auckland. Martin pulls apart and repurposes old machines into super cool robots.

My creation, Pringles, is also a super cool robot.

To make my robot I first found a suitable item for the body, a Pringles tube. The bbq flavour made me think to make it a food-related robot. I then used scrap paper to make the arms, a tin for his head, and a paper towel for his face.

Once I had finished, I looked at my robot and thought it was missing something. Ah! Why not add a flying element to my robot? But how could I do that?

I started to look at different flying machines and thought that using propellers, like a helicopter, could help him fly. I found some plastic spoons and attached them to his head.

Perfect!

Now it was time to put Pringles to good use in the kitchen, so tonight I had him help me make dinner.

He was a great help in the kitchen. He opened up the tins, stirred, mashed and put it into the dish. Now it's in the oven. I can't wait to eat it!

I really enjoyed making my robot. I loved being able to give materials a second chance in life. All the items I used to make my robot were items found in my recycling bin.

The most challenging aspect of this task was to think of a robot design. I wasn't sure where to start with making him. I then remembered how Martin Horspool starts - he finds the body first, so that is what I did.

If I was to do this art challenge again, I would think about adding some colour to his face. Or I would look at creating some funky eyes for him.

We got this Makaraka!

On the weekend, the staff made a video to share good messages to the community of the school!  It was fun!  You can see all the staff from school on the video.

It was neat to see people we haven't seen for over 3 weeks!  I found it quite emotional!

Hope you enjoy it!

Idominus's Lunch

Owen to the rescue! Black and White by The Wibbles
This week our art challenge was to make a picture out of nature and create some thing interesting!  This is Owen (AKA Jono) Riding Idominus who has just caught his lunch!  this is a Black and White work to look like the olden days!

Idominus's Lunch By the Wibbles
We had a lot of fun with this task and enjoyed searching for things that would create the picture!  We chose leaves to fill the body because it is Autumn and there are a lot of leaves around at the moment!

I learnt that Andy Goldsworthy - who is the artist who works like this, was born in England and now lives in Scotland.  He never uses any man made tools to make his art - only his hands!  Wow.  Sometimes he photographs his art in different weather conditions to see the difference in them!

This picture is Owen being eaten the Idominus catching his next prey!  Idominus Rex is a carnivore and in the lego movie he eats hot dogs! The Mosasaurus eats Idominus in the end!

What an exciting morning we have had!  Being chased by dinosaurs...  whew now I'm off for an afternoon nap!

Readworks Library

Here is a screen cast about how to use the library tool in Readworks!  It is a great tool where you can choose your favourite topics and choose your own stories.

As always, it will read the stories to you or you can read them yourself!  Add to your book of knowledge as you go!  Anything you learn or find exciting will be added as you grow your brain!

Happy reading everyone!

Miss Moat's Weekly Art Challenge - Week 1

This week I set a challenge to learn more about Andy Goldsworthy and create a piece of art using the same materials that he uses. He is an English artist that only uses natural objects to create sculptures and other creations.

I completed my artwork on Wednesday afternoon. I started by wandering outside to collect different leaves that have fallen to the ground. I also found some stones and a stick.

I felt relaxed as I moved the leaves around to see what pictures I could create.

Quackers the Duck - on his lovely morning walk!
Artwork by Miss Moat

I first made a brown duck with a bright yellow sun.

When I was making this picture I was starting to get annoyed as the wind kept blowing the leaves away and I had to keep restarting the duck. The wind finally stopped and I was able to quickly put the picture together and take a photo.

Don't worry, be happy!

I then asked myself "what can I make so that I am happy again?"

I decided to create a sunflower picture. I love sunflowers since they remind me of happiness.

I really enjoyed participating in this challenge. The wind made it difficult but I felt successful as I have been able to create two different images.

I would now love to try to make a sculpture; some sort of tall tower made of sticks. But I wonder how that would work as I would only be able to use natural materials.

Distance Learning 😎

Here I am working from home!  My office space is the dining table!  Lucky we have a breakfast bar to eat at eh?

I have been learning as much as you all!  Trying hard to make your learning fun, practical and easy!  I hope you enjoy it!

I really enjoyed our hangout and hearing all the cool things you have been doing!  Like building ramps and tracks, making music and arty things!  Please keep sharing them with us on your blog!

We are so lucky the weather has been good to get outside!  I might need to have a stretch now and get ready for the next learning session!

I certainly do miss all my class and can't wait to see you all in person!
