Maths Curriculum Evening 28/03/18

On Wednesday evening we had an amazing turnout to our Maths curriculum evening.  We had fun playing maths games, problem solving and learning how to practice Maths at home.
We use the Prime Maths programme and it was a great opportunity to show our parents how Prime Maths works.

Here is Mrs Hall's Powerpoint:

We started with a hot milo and bickies and then had a go at the problems after the presentation.  There were even Easter Egg prizes!  Here are the winners of the problem solving draws:

Hot Cross Buns

Today we made hot cross buns at school with our buddies!  It was fun.  We learnt about yeast and how it is from the mould/fungi family and that it is the gas from the yeast that makes the bread rise.  Once the buns were cooked at the Makaraka Dairy, we bought them back to school and had an Easter feast!  Yum the buns were delicious! Eating and spending time together is important at Easter and it helps us appreciate learning at different stages!

Makaraka vs Makauri Lunchtime Chess

Today we had a chess tournament against Makauri Year 6's.  It was a great time to meet and network with other students who have the same interests as us.  Thank you so much Makauri for the shared lunch it was delicious!  Also thanks to Mrs Worsnop who organised the whole thing!
Special mention to Tom and Harry our high scorers!  Unfortunately we lost overall but now have some drive to practice and learn those 3 move checkmates before our Nuhaka exchange!
This is what collaboration and sharing time together is all about!

Museum Trip Monday 21 March

Last Monday we went to the museum.  It was amazing to see the da Vinci exhibition and have a go on some of the machines!
The main reason we went however, was to learn more about the Whirikoka story which the teachers at the museum did a great job researching! Thanks Koka Julie and Koka Iona!

Camp videos

We had such an amazing time on camp!  We are now starting to complete our videos to show you how amazing it was!  The process required us to write recounts in prose and poem form and then voice record over our video.  We hope you enjoy them and have a life long record with your learner's voice and photos!

Here is the first one finished!  You will find the rest on your learner's blog!
